Welcome to Luther College at the University of Regina!

Dear Luther students,

Welcome! Congratulations on choosing to begin your university career at Luther College, and I’m confident you will find you’ve made an excellent choice. Our staff and faculty are committed to supporting you as you make the important transition to life as a university student. This transition can be both exciting and challenging. There’s a lot to learn when you start university – and it’s normal to have lots of questions. The University of Regina is a big place, and can feel overwhelming, but know that, as a Luther student, we can help you navigate. Don’t ever be afraid to ask us for help, advice, or information. Whatever questions you have, remember that there are people on campus who can help you find the answers. The friendly staff in our Academic Office are your first point of contact, so please come visit us in Luther College Room 200. As a Luther student, you also have the support of our Chaplain, Brooklynn Lane, to assist with your spiritual needs, whatever your faith, or even just to offer a sympathetic ear when the weight of the world seems to be on your shoulders. You may also find it helpful to explore your relationship with reconciliation by engaging with our Elder-in-Residence, Elder Lorna Standingready, either formally through organized events or informally by meeting with her personally. She is always ready to share her wisdom and guidance. Our staff are committed to serving you throughout your time with us. As Dean of Luther College, I’m also very proud of our faculty, who provide an excellent undergraduate education through the range of courses they teach. I hope you get to take courses from many of them!

Remember that your first year of university is a time to explore new interests and new directions. What are you curious about? Take courses in subjects that intrigue you. You may think of your time at university as preparation for a career, but I believe it is more than that. It’s a time to discover who you are, to reflect on the kind of person you want to become, and to think about what matters to you. Whatever career path you follow, we hope your experiences at Luther College will not only prepare you to succeed, but allow you to discover your purpose and direction, so that you will flourish. As part of the Luther family, we’re here to help make that happen.

The faculty and staff of Luther look forward to sharing the coming months and years with you in the scholarly work we all share together.

Best wishes,

Derrek Eberts, Ph.D.
Dean and Associate Professor of Geography and Environmental Studies
