Derrek Eberts was born and raised in Regina. He completed his BA (HONS) and MA in Geography at the University of Saskatchewan, and his PhD in Geography at York University. Before coming to Luther College in July, 2024, he was a member of the Department of Geography and Environment at Brandon University for the past 24 years. He is an economic geographer who specializes in labour geography. He has teaching interests in economic geography, urban geography, and quantitative methods in geography. His research program has included work organization and labour markets, small city downtown revitalization, neolocalism in the Canadian brewing industry, and for the past 15 years, impacts of tourism on quality of life in communities near the mega-resort of Puerto Vallarta, in Jalisco, Mexico.
