Our students have dedicated and committed teachers, meaningful co-curricular opportunities, and belong to a close-knit diverse community.
What does tuition pay for?
Tuition fees cover all aspects of our operating expenses, including salaries and benefits for our teachers. This investment in our faculty reflects our commitment to academic excellence and outstanding teaching. We strive for small class sizes and low student-to-teacher ratios in the classroom. Our teachers are also supported by a strong professional development program.
Tuition also supports co-curricular activities, the library, our counselling programs and student support services. Technology, a vital tool supporting all this work, is always changing; tuition fees are critical in ensuring we have the most up-to-date computer systems and networks.
Historical independent schools do not receive regular government funding for capital projects. Tuition fees contribute towards the ongoing maintenance and operation of our buildings and physical plant and help us fund facility upgrades as needed. We also set aside money in a capital reserve fund each year for future capital projects. Several years ago, Luther College made a major capital investment in our campus worth $18.3 million for the new Semple Gymnasium, Student Commons and fine arts classroom wing as well as upgrades to the existing buildings including the Merlis Belsher Heritage Centre. A portion of tuition fees each year are directed towards paying for that project.
How else is Luther College High School Funded?
Tuition is our largest source of funding and accounts for 50% of our revenue each year. Our sole purpose is to provide an exceptional educational experience for your student which means that all tuition goes directly to the operating budget of the school.
Luther College High School is a historical, independent school. Provincially recognized and funded, the school receives 80% of the per-student provincial government grant given to each Saskatchewan student in other types of high schools.
Our operating budget is also supplemented by revenue generated by our residence and cafeteria. Luther College is also a registered charity that relies on fundraises from our community.
How are Tuition Fees Determined?
Tuition fees are set by the Board of Regents in consultation with administration. This planning process considers day-to-day operating expenses, ongoing capital repairs and replacements, salary expenses, and new initiatives.
We appreciate that the cost of a Luther education is a considerable financial commitment for families. Though careful stewardship and fiscal planning, we do our best to keep tuition affordable.
Tuition fees are reviewed annually. As a school that provides religious instruction, the Canada Revenue Agency allows the College to provide a charitable tax receipt for a portion of the tuition paid each year.

What If I Can’t Pay My Tuition Fees?
Luther College High School is committed to offering financial aid and bursaries to help ensure that students have access to a Luther education regardless of financial circumstances. This is made possible through the school’s operating budget as well as through generous donations from the Luther community. Luther offers bursaries and financial assistance to qualifying Saskatchewan students. Students are required to apply for financial assistance annually by March 1, and the level of financial assistance may vary. Donations are a major source of revenue to support financial assistance and bursaries, and the amount of financial assistance offered each year is limited.
